A suicide bomb blast in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, claimed the life of Taliban Refugee Minister Khalil Haqqani and two others. According to officials, the explosion occurred inside the ministry building, resulting in the death of the refugee minister. Khalil Haqqani was reported to be the uncle of acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, who leads a powerful faction within the Taliban.
Khalil Haqqani is among the highest-profile individuals killed in a bombing since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan three years ago. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier, in March 2023, a bombing in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, killed Taliban-appointed provincial governor Daud Muzammil and two others.
Notably, Khalil Haqqani was designated a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" by the United States in 2011.
